There are ways to access the care you need. Please get in contact with sarah@dcusu.ie for more information.

Prescription Costs

Every ordinary resident of Ireland (meaning you intend to live in Ireland for the next 12 months) can apply for a Drugs Payment Scheme Card. Your DPS card caps monthly prescription costs at 114 euro per month. You never know when this could come in handy - especially if you don’t have a medical card. DPS cards are not means tested and are valid for 5 years.

You can apply for a DPS card at: mydps.ie

Gym & Sports Facilities

A host of DCU Sport Facilities have reopened since July. Details on available facilities can be found here.

Drug & Alcohol Use

DCU has a strict no-tolerance policy on drugs which can be found here. DCU’s alcohol policy can be found here. That being said, DCUSU recognises that many students will participate in recreational drug and alcohol use.

We want students to be empowered to protect themselves in these activities if they choose to participate. While the safest advice is to drink in moderation, and to avoid drug use, there are precautions that can be taken to reduce your risk of harm if you drink in excess or recreationally use drugs.

Drug and Alcohol Services including information and rehabilitation can be found here.

What are the complications of drug use during COVID-19?

Harm reduction advice for drug use during COVID-19 can be found here.

How do I know if my drug use is harmful to my life?

You can take a self-assessment test that will ask you questions about your drug use. This can be found here.

How can I check my recreational drugs to see if they are safe?

There is no guarantee that illicit substances are safe - even if you have obtained them from a trusted source. DCU SU provides free and confidential drug testing kits for a range of illicit substances if you wish to avail of these.

Please note, drug testing kits are not a ‘green light’ for drug use. There are limitations to what drug testing kits can tell you. While a kit might tell you that the substance you’re testing is X drug, this does not mean that there are no other substances mixed in. It also does not tell you a lot about the strength of the drug.
