Your academic performance may be adversely affected by illness (physical or psychological), accident, pregnancy, maternity, bereavement or other personal circumstances. These guidelines deal with cases where the above and similar circumstances; -cause you to miss a substantial number of lectures, tutorials or labs
-significantly affect your ability to study over a long period
-prevent you from completing an assessment on time
-negatively impact your performance in a continuous assessment exercise
-cause you to miss an examination
-cause you to perform badly in examination
For extenuating circumstances, which adversely affect your performance in an examination, please refer to the Registry's 'Extenuating Circumstances form'. This should
be completed and returned to the Registry at least 7 days before the meeting of the Progression and Awards Board (usually held the week before the publication of May and August exam results). See page 5 for exact dates.
You should only apply for special consideration if you feel that your particular circumstances have affected your performance in continuous assessment, your ability to study, or your attendance of lectures, tutorials or labs and that this may impact your assessed grades in one or more modules.
