DCUSU’s Raise and Give Week starts next week and will be “FAIR-ly Full On!”

DCUSU’s annual Raise & Give Week kicks off this Monday (20th) with fundraising events running throughout the week. DCUSU Raise And Give aims to get students more involved and engaged in fundraising, volunteering and social projects. This year’s theme is a Fair. DCUSU wants to recreate the idea of an old-fashioned, community, fundraising fair to encourage students to give money to one of the chosen Raise and Give charities, which include Bees for Battens and The DCU Hardship Fund.

Monday activities include Brushboarding and FM104’s OB unit outside the Henry Grattan from 12 noon. Brush Boarding is quite literally a ramp you can snowboard and surf on that’s made from brushes. Brush Boarding is a combination of surfing and snowboarding without all the wet stuff and now DCU students and staff can give it a try!

The NuBar’s fundraising festivities begin with a DJ, dunk tank and some street performers at 1pm. The traditional DCU Dunk Tank (which has been delighting students for years!) is back and ready to make a splash! The concept of dunking your mates and well-known DCU heads has become a DCU Raise And Give pastime. Street performers will take to the NuBar floor at 1pm. From jugglers to contortionists and balloon makers to mime artists - this is entertainment like no other and not to be missed!

Damo & Ivor are performing in the Hub as part of Tuesday nights from 11pm. Tickets are on sale this Monday (20th) in advance upstairs in The Students’ Union at €5. Damo & Ivor shot to fame after their first single was launched on RTE's Republic of Telly. With over 1.4 million views on YouTube under their belt they created their debut album Epic Choons which was released on the 4th of November.

Wednesday, the Daily Mail will be bringing a campervan worth 40k to be won on campus by all students and staff. The campervan is a prize for a competition, which includes return ferry sailings to Poland, tickets for 4 people to Ireland’s 3 matches and accommodation in campsites along the way. The campervan is touring the country with the Irish Soccer National Fan Book, which is being signed by people all over the country; this will be presented to the Irish team ahead of their first match.

There are various other fundraising events taking place – all event information is available at www.greatcraic.ie - A Complete DCU Student Events Guide for What Needs to be in Your Social Calendar.
