The 2012 Red Bull Bedroom Jam has kicked off and is searching for up and coming talented DCU bands and musicians - upload your music now !
Red Bull Bedroom Jam is on a mission to unearth explosive talent that has been jamming away behind poster clad bedroom doors until this point. This online battle of the bands provides a phenomenal platform within which up-and-coming Irish talent can raise their profile and further their careers within a notoriously competitive industry. In short, Red Bull Bedroom Jam wants to help young Irish bands to expand their “wings”. Back with a beat in 2012, the competition is open to acts nationwide, giving young Irish bands the opportunity to perform at Irelands biggest music festivals in 2012 and one lucky act the opportunity to record in the Red Bull Studio with a top producer next Autumn.
From January 19th, fledgling Irish bands (all members aged 17+, with one member aged under 26) from Belfast to Bandon to Dublin to Dunmore East, can upload a video to the competition website, www.redbullbedroomjam.ie and from February 27th, the bi-weekly Bedroom Jam Buzz Chart will reveal which of the country’s acts have been the most popular in terms of video views and comments. Social media activity, such as YouTube, Twitter and Facebook also counts in the chart.
From there 6 bands will be filmed live from the comfort of their own homes, while the world watches online; from those, 3 bands will be chosen to actually get out of their houses and play at the biggest Irish music festivals in 2012; and finally, one band will be crowned as winners at a live final next Autumn and they will go on to record for a week with a top producer in the Red Bull Studios! This is a prize like no other so bands, get uploading, and you could be on the way to the biggest year of your lives!
Speaking at the launch in the Workman’s club this evening, music journalist and one of this year’s judges, Brian Boyd said “Red Bull Bedroom Jam means there are no excuses for any of the great young bands out there looking for that vital first break. With the chance to play at music festivals and record in an International Red Bull Studio, everything is in place. It’s a privilege to be asked to play a part in this genuine and exciting band battle. Let the Jams commence!”
Representing Northern Ireland on the judging panel, broadcaster and music critic Stuart Bailie welcomed the chance to see new talent being brought to the fore: “I always like Red Bull’s approach to music. They are credible and they respect the artists. This year’s Bedroom Jam should take this further with new talent. So I’m really looking forward to hearing the acts that take part in this initiative”.
The Minutes launched the project at the Workman’s Club on Thursday 19th of January and over the coming months Irish bands such as Kanyu Tree and Rams Pocket Radio will be giving Red Bull Bedroom Jam support gigs in Dublin and Belfast, so watch this space!
But what if you’re not in a band? You have the power to vote for your favourites (and laugh at each band's dodgy curtains and carpet!) at www.redbullbedroomjam.ie
